Effective Science Communication

For PhD Students

Does the science speak for itself? Maybe. But today as a a scientist, you need to promote your research. Easily, comprehensively, sometimes even in a funny way. By communicating effectively about your research, you are not only doing a great service to the general public and your peers but also your own work. We have prepared or you a practical seminar with top science communication tips to bear in mind.

  • presentations skills on stage (scientific speech or even a competition)

  • typical mistakes of non-native English speakers


Lecturer: Jason Hwang


Jason Hwang is originally from California and has been teaching scientific and academic English in the Czech Republic and abroad since 2005. He focuses mainly on science communication and writing for PhD students and researchers. Before getting involved in English teaching, he was working for one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies as a researcher, as well as acting with some of San Diego’s many theatre companies. Jason obtained degrees in Biochemistry/Cell Biology and Theatre from the University of California, San Diego. He also holds an MA in Education (Applied Linguists), the Cambridge Delta, and is a certified soft skills trainer with the British Council.
